Artist’s Statement
I have been a professional painter for over 30 years, working exclusively in watercolour and gouache. I use watercolour in quite a vivid way in still life and landscape work, to create vibrant eye-catching pieces. My architectural work makes more of the watercolour properties of transparency and fluidity, to allow layering and blending of colour, and so create a classic timeless look. Gouache is occasionally added to create a dramatic dark background, often in floral work or architectural night scenes.

I am inspired by Mackintosh and Blackadder in my floral paintings, and Edward Hopper for in architectural night scenes. I try to create a sense of clarity and stillness in my work, whether in commission or personal pieces.

I am a strong believer in working from life where possible, and spend much of my free time out and about sketching round Edinburgh and further afield.

“Thinking back there are so many examples of excellent service: Carol is very genuine and has a personal and engaging approach to her work. The array of designs and artwork were very eye catching. Carol was a true professional and had dealings with our wedding planner to take pictures of the venue for a painting I requested. All materials were high quality and the art was beautifully framed. Thank you Carol for making our experience of your service run smoothly even though we were 150 miles apart!”
